About the Role:
The Leonia Public Library is seeking a friendly and detail-oriented Part-Time Library Assistant for both Adult and YA Circulation to support daily operations and provide excellent customer service. This role involves assisting patrons, managing materials, and maintaining an organized and welcoming environment. The position is fully in-person and requires flexibility to work daytime, evening, and weekend shifts.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide outstanding customer service by assisting patrons with inquiries, locating materials, and navigating the online catalog.
Perform circulation tasks, including checking materials in and out, managing holds, issuing library cards, and updating patron accounts.
Handle library fines, fees, and basic account inquiries.
Assist with shelving, shelf-reading, shifting books, and maintaining an orderly collection.
Support interlibrary loan services and process incoming and outgoing materials.
Help patrons with library technology, including public computers, scanners, copiers, and web services.
Participate in opening and closing procedures as needed.
Sort and distribute mail and process periodicals.
Assist with programs, and other library services as assigned.
Skills & Competencies:
High school diploma (or GED) and at least three years of experience in library or customer service work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Strong computer literacy, including experience with Google Suite, MS Office, Windows, and troubleshooting basic tech issues.
Ability to learn and adapt to new library systems (experience with BCCLS and LEAP is highly desirable).
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Fluency in a language other than English, particularly Korean or Spanish is preferred.
Must be able to bend, lift, move, or carry up to 25 pounds
Salary:
$15.50/per hour; prorated Sick Time
General Schedule:
18 – 22 hours per week maximum depending on need:
Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 10a – 3p or 3p – 8p
Tuesdays/Fridays 10a – 2p or 1p – 5p
One or two Saturdays a month – 9:30a – 5p
