The Hillsdale Free Public Library seeks enthusiastic individuals with strong interpersonal skills to assist at our circulation desks. Candidates shall possess strong computer skills and a love of learning, books, people, and popular culture.
Qualifications:
• High School diploma or equivalent desired, but will consider mature high school students
• Customer service skills
• Proficiency utilizing technology, computers, devices, browsers, mobile devices
• Fluency in the English language
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to lift and move objects of various weights and sizes up to 40 lbs
Summary of Job Description:
• Execute routine library tasks using the ILS (integrated library system)
• Demonstrate expertise in searching the library catalog
• Communicate library policies and procedures to the public
• Help patrons locate items
• Assist the public with technology, fax/printing/photocopier/basic browser
• Pack and unpack interlibrary deliveries
• Prepare new books/media for circulation
• Record program and facilities reservations, including public computers / study rooms
• Recommend books/movies/music
• Reshelve library items
• Other duties as assigned
• Create a warm and inviting atmosphere
Hours: 20-22 hours/week. A combination of early (10am-2pm) and late (2pm-6pm) shifts, one evening until 9pm and at least one Saturday per month (10am to 5pm). Ability to work Sunday at time and a half rate is desired. Substitute hours as needed.
Rate: $16.00/hr or commensurate with applicable library experience
