PT Evening and Saturday Youth Services Assistant

The Ridgefield Library is seeking a creative, organized, and enthusiastic individual to support youth programming and department operations. This position is integral in expanding our after-school, evening, and weekend services for children and teens, and includes regular evening and Saturday shifts.

The ideal candidate is fun, flexible and able to wear many hats, passionate about working with youth, delivers exceptional customer service in a library setting, and creates engaging, innovative programs for children and their families. Strong interpersonal, multi-tasking, and technical skills are essential. 

This position reports directly to the Library Director, and is subject to a 90-day probationary period. The candidate must successfully pass the background check.

Key Responsibilities

Plan, prepare, and deliver fun and engaging programs for babies through 8th grade (e.g., story times, STEM, crafts, summer reading, weekly events, book club)
Set up and clean up program spaces and materials
Design and post promotional materials (flyers, digital signs, newsletters, calendars, social media)
Shelve and shelf-read youth collections
Perform basic circulation tasks (check in/out, renewals, library card registration)
Provide children’s reader’s advisory and assist with locating youth materials and program info
Assist patrons with library computers and printers, including basic troubleshooting 
Participate at community and library events
Understand and apply library policies and procedures
Perform other duties as assigned or as needed
Qualifications

College degree or MLIS / MLS student preferred, or a college student with coursework in education or child development
Experience working with children or teens is highly preferred
Experience in developing and delivering programs or events
Schedule: The schedule for this position will start at 17 hours per week, including regular evenings and Saturday coverage.

“Good Faith” Salary, Range, or Rate of Pay: $17.00 an hour.
