2025 BCCLS Scholarship Fund Application Now Open!

The Mary Joyce Doyle Scholarship initiative annually honors library school students with financial assistance to pursue their Master of Library Science or Library Information Science degree. For additional information about the scholarships, please see the BCCLS Scholarship Fund.  

The BCCLS Scholarship Committee requests completed online application with supporting materials submitted no later than Friday, March 21, 2025.

Finding Belonging, Building Community

January is seen as a time of new beginnings, but winter can also be a trying time. The days are short, third places to connect with others can be harder to access during the coldest months, and seasonal affective disorder hits about 5% of us. A majority of Americans are also stressed over the country’s future and the economy. In the face of hard times and growing loneliness, community is more important than ever.

The difference between “people” and “community” is a shared interest, a sense of reciprocity, a common bond. This year, we would like to invite you to explore the idea of community through reading, reflecting, having conversations, or even visiting local libraries to see what kinds of community connections are out there. As diverse as human beings are, there is common ground to be found and fostered. Collective well-being promotes individual well-being—we are not only stronger together, but happier too.
