The Ridgefield Free Public Library Board of Trustees seeks a dynamic and visionary leader to serve as the Library Director. About Us:
The Ridgefield Free Public Library’s mission is to meet the general public’s informational needs by offering access to a diverse collection of materials, maintaining a welcoming environment, and providing community-based programs that foster lifelong learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the library in alignment with its mission and strategic goals.
- Oversee all library operations, including budgeting, staff management, and collection development.
- Foster a positive and inclusive culture for patrons and staff.
- Cultivate a passion and vision for evolving library collections, including integrating innovative digital resources and services.
- Develop and promote innovative programs and services that meet the needs of a diverse community.
- Advocate for the library within the community and with local government and organizations.
- Participate in library cooperatives and consortiums, with BCCLS (Bergen County Cooperative Library System) experience a plus.
- Collaborate closely with the Board of Trustees to develop strategic plans, policies, and initiatives that advance the library’s mission and ensure sustainability.
- Work with the Board with an eye to the future, focusing on long-term planning, evolving community needs, emerging technologies, and growth opportunities.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Trustees, borough officials, department personnel, Friends of the Library, community organizations, school groups, library associates, and the general public.
- Provide regular reports and updates to the Board of Trustees and maintain open communication to ensure effective governance and support.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program (preferred).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in library administration or a related field.
- Proven leadership and management skills, including budget management and staff development.
- Strong commitment to community engagement and public service.
- Passion for fostering lifelong learning and adapting to the ever-changing needs of library patrons.
- Experience in library cooperatives or consortiums, particularly BCCLS, is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Compensation:
