The Library Assistant works at the library’s only service desk, handling circulation, children’s, and basic reference duties. Duties include but are not limited to: checking materials in and out, collecting fines, assisting with opening and closing the library, tidying shelves, shelving materials, packing and/or unpacking in-transit materials, pulling materials for the hold shelf, helping coordinate, set up, and run programs, processing new materials, and more. Knowledge and Skills
Knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Suite products
Familiarity with digital downloads and mobile devices.
Thorough knowledge of office procedures and aptitude for clerical and detail work.
Cultivates a warm and welcoming attitude to patrons, and is responsive to their needs.
Ability to communicate well in-person and on paper.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers.
Schedule
Four five-hour shifts per week: Monday 3-8pm, Tuesday 10am-3pm, Thursday 10am-3pm, and Saturday 10am-3pm. Opportunity for more coverage as needed.
Requirements
Completion of a high school diploma or higher. Experience working with the public and Spanish fluency are a major plus. As a Passport Acceptance Facility, all Bogota Public Library employees are required to become passport acceptance agents (training provided). Therefore, American citizenship is a requirement of the position.
